Traditional Folklore Association of Chania-Crete was founded in 1983 in Chania, with the aim of spreading and saving Cretan cultural heritage. The group was founded by Yiannis Agiasmenakis together with a group of dancers, with love and passion but also with a deep study of the original steps of the authentic Cretan dance.

Within the framework of the activities of the Folklore, are included the creation and organization of cultural events, the cultural exchange and meeting with dance groups from Greece and abroad, the presentation of theatrical performances as well as the teaching of Rizitika songs.

Every year, our group performs cretan dances in many parts of Chania and especially in the summer, it organizes the big dance meeting in the theatre of Anatoliki Tafros in Chania and the representations of the customs of the Cretan Wedding, in the context of the traditional“Strata”, organized by the Municipality of Chania.

Finally, specialized dance instructors of our group, travel around the world, teaching Cretan dances in Greek and non-Greek communities abroad
